WWE news: Will Kevin Owens face John Cena at Super Show-Down after shock RAW resignation? | WWE | Sport

It was revealed last month that Owens will team up with Elias to take on Bobby Lashley and a returning John Cena on October 6 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

However, KO announced that he quits WWE after a heartbreaking loss to Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins on RAW.

After his shocking resignation, WWE.com removed his profile from the WWE superstars’ page.

However, the Tag Team Match is still being promoted ahead of WWE Super Show-Down which indicates that the former Universal Champion’s resignation is indeed scripted.

The preview piece ahead of the match though has been updated and Elias may still need to find a new partner.

WWE wrote: “KO revealed on the Aug. 27 edition of Raw that he “quits,” so it remains unknown at this time how that unexpected revelation will affect this scheduled match. Will Elias need to find a replacement?”

Owens had been having a very tough time on RAW ever since his return from Smackdown during the Superstar Shake-Up.

His friend and associate Sami Zayn was sidelined after suffering torn rotator cuffs and may miss WrestleMania 35.

KO was then embroiled in a feud with Mr Money in the Bank Braun Strowman who brutalised him for weeks as he threw him from the top of a ladder and a steel cage.

He was determined to end his miserable RAW stint last Monday night by winning the Intercontinental Championship but failed to beat Rollins and decided to call it quits.

Owens had some incredible battles with Cena who is expected to finally make his televised return to the ring Down Under.

The Champ’s last match took place at the Greatest Royal Rumble five months ago in Saudi Arabia where he defeated legendary rival Triple H.

That took place a few weeks after his impromptu WrestleMania 34 clash against The Undertaker who beat him in less than three minutes.

Cena will compete at a Live Event tonight in Shanghai and promised to debut a new finisher he picked up during his training at Jackie Chan’s JC Stunt Team International Training Centre.

The 16-time world champion now works part time with WWE as he is building a career in Hollywood.

The ex-WWE Champion has featured in various blockbuster hits like Trainwreck, Blockers and Daddy’s Home 2 alongside some of the industry’s biggest celebrities like Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg and Amy Schumer.

Cena is also scheduled to star in The Janson Directive which will be produced by his former WWE rival Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
