Mysterio recently signed a two-year deal with Vince McMahon’s promotion and is set to rejoin the active roster soon.
According to WrestleVotes, WWE management wanted the three-time world champion to make his big comeback this Saturday at WWE Super Show-Down.
However, The Master of the 619 might be absent at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia but could make his highly-anticipated return on Smackdown’s 1,000th episode.
WrestleVotes tweeted: “Regarding Rey Mysterio, some within the company wanted a “surprise pop” for the Australia stadium show coming up on Saturday, however I’m hearing his return is more likely to happen in 2 weeks at SmackDown 1000. Mysterio was a staple of SD in the early days. Makes sense.”
Mysterio made a marvellous one-off return at the Royal Rumble last January and wowed the crowd with his incredible high-flying manoeuvres.
The ex-WWE Champion also competed in the first ever 50-man over-the-top-rope battle royal at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia three months later.
The 43-year-old’s stunning appearances paved the way for a full-time return to Smackdown where he built a Hall of Fame-worthy career.
Mysterio is one of the most respected WWE legends of all time as he has beaten some of the greatest wrestlers, like Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho and CM Punk.
The Master of the 619 also thrived in the tag team division as he won championships alongside the likes of Edge, Rob Van Dam and Batista.
The ex-Intercontinental Champion always impressed against super heavyweights despite his 5ft 6in, 175lb frame and that helped him win the Royal Rumble Match in 2006 after throwing Randy Orton over the top rope.
Mysterio also stood out in the Cruiserweight division since his WCW days as he won the title eight times and had some classic bouts against the likes of Dean Malenko, Chavo Guerrero and Ultimo Dragon.
The high-flyer left WWE in 2015 after almost 13 years in McMahon’s company and went on to have some impressive stints at Lucha Underground, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and other promotions.
Rumours suggest he is set to take part in a dream match against US Champion Shinsuke Nakamura on Smackdown.
The two wrestlers met at the Royal Rumble nine months ago and Nakamura got the better of him as he won the match and earned a main-event spot at WrestleMania 34.
