A one-in-a-million optical illusion has revealed the truth about cats. It may seem like they’re asleep most of the time but they secretly run the world.
Twitter user Amanda Hyslop uploaded the snap, saying: “Took a pic of the cat looking out the window and accidentally turned him into some sort of god.”
The incredible picture appears to show Amanda’s white cat casually perching on top of a cloud, despite simply being a window reflection.
Thousands of people responded to the amazing image – with many adding in their own pictures of cat deities.
Thandie Nzimba replied: “Ain’t no ‘accidentally’ about it, he’s just revealing his true spiritual form to you”.
A retweet from Gladiator star Russell Crowe helped Amanda’s photo to true viral status, it’s picked up nearly 300,000 likes so far and around a thousand people have commented on the spectacular image.
Gwyn Davies, mindful of the fact that cats actually were revered as gods in the time of the pharaohs, wrote: “He’s looking towards Egypt, that’s where his true worshippers are.’ while Bill Hamilton pointed out that it’s one in the eye for Flat Earthers: “Proof that the earth is indeed a sphere. If God were a cat he would have already knocked everything off.”
More than one person shared the same quote from Discworld author Terry Pratchett: “In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods. They have not forgotten this,” while a few others went with a more Simpsons-inspired “I, for one, welcome our new feline overlords.”
Perhaps a Twitter user rejoicing in the supremely simple name John Smith had the most poetic rejoinder of all. Taking a line out of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s book, he commented: “Look upon my works, ye mighty, and dispurrr.”
