Express.co.uk reported recently three major actors were shortlisted to play the son of Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw, played by Anthony Edwards in the first Top Gun movie.
Who will play Goose’s son in Top Gun 2?
The search for the perfect actor to take up the role of Goose’s son has finally come to an end.
Miles Teller is set to star as Goose’s son and Maverick’s new protégé.
Miles Teller starred in the big-screen productions Only The Brave and Thank You for Your Service, but his breakout film was Whiplash (2014).
Goose’s death in the first Top Gun movie meant he would not be appearing in the sequel, even if actor Anthony Edwards suggested Ghost Goose should return.
Instead, fans will get a dose of Goose via his son, who appeared in the original as a young boy alongside his mom (played by Meg Ryan).
Top Gun fans have been waiting for decades for a Top Gun sequel, whose official title is Top Gun Maverick.
Tom Cruise finally gave fans them what they wanted, with an official announcement via Twitter.
Top Gun wouldn’t be Top Gun without the Iceman and soon Val Kilmer was rumoured to be on the Top Gun set for filming.
The sequel will be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters.
It will also explore the end of the era of dogfighting.
Cruise told fans: “Stylistically it’s going to be same. Aviators are back. The need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines.”
The sequel will not stray far from its roots, and Cruise described it as a “competition film” much like the first.
The only other cast members of Top Gun Maverick confirmed so far are Cruise and Kilmer.
Val Kilmer will also reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel.
Who will play Cruise’s love interest, however, remains to be seen as Kelly McGillis has yet to confirm whether she will cameo.
Top Gun: Maverick is set for release on July 12, 2019.
