Unfortunately, the stray mutt had failed to obey even the most basic safety procedures and after clinging on to the paraglider’s backpack for a minute or so he fell a significant distance, breaking his leg.
Luckily for Luck, he was taken to a local vet who patched the pooch up and says he’s now doing well.
The startling incident occurred in the Serra de Santa Helena area in the city of Sete Lagoas in the southern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
The entire extraordinary event was captured on video. In the clip, onlookers can be heard screaming and shouting “oh my God” as the paraglider soars into the air with Luck hanging on until the eventually tires and drops to the ground.
After the bizarre clip was uploaded to Facebook paragliding enthusiasts and dog lovers alike flocked to comment on it.
One Facebook user, Jonathan Melo commented: “Haha. Superdog.”
And Juan Peres said: “I think I saw this in an episode of Scooby Doo.”
It may not seem natural, but flying dogs have been seen before. Utah hang-glider pilot Dan McManus felt so bad about his Australian cattle dog Shadow crying every time his master took off into the air he built a special cradle to let the the dog share his ride.
And William Kimball, a veteran hang-glider for 22 years, started flying with Buddy his two-year-old yellow labrador when he was just a puppy.
William said: “Buddy does everything else with me, We live in a condo, so he does not get much exercise, so I take him running with me all the time and today we went mountain bike riding together.
“So, it seemed kind of natural to take Buddy along with me.”
