Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has spoken about his summer transfer plans and how it might be affected by the current suspension of football. However, the 38-year-old might turn to the Bundesliga to find players for his squad and Express Sport has identified the five Bundesliga transfer targets the Spaniard could look to sign in the next window.
Adding another defender is on Arteta’s list of priorities and the club have been linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.
The 20-year-old is a versatile defender, which is an attractive option for Arteta, as while his main position is a centre-back, he can comfortably play as a left-back too.
Ndicka has made 15 Bundesliga appearances for Frankfurt this campaign and the 6’4″ defender has been capped by France at every youth level from Under-16s to Under-21s.
However, Arsenal are not the only club interested in Ndicka, who is under contract until 2023, with Liverpool also keeping tabs on the talented youngster.
Arsenal were interested in signing Upamecano last summer but were unable to meet his then £72m release clause, but the north London club could return with another offer this summer, as RB Leipzig weigh up the risk of losing the player for nothing in the future.
Another young defender who has been attracting the attention of Arsenal with his performances is Jean-Clair Todibo.
The 20-year-old Barcelona defender joined Schalke on loan in the January window for the rest of the 2019-20 season.
Todibo arrived at the Nou Camp on a free transfer from Toulouse but has only managed five first-team appearances for the Catalan club.
According to Bleacher Report, Schalke have an option to make the move permanent for £22m (€25m) plus £4m (€5m) in add-ons.
However, they might not have the funds to be able to trigger the clause, which would then open the door for other clubs to make a move.
Barcelona boss Quique Setien is said to be monitoring the player’s performances at Schalke for the remainder of the season and once the campaign is concluded he will then decide the player’s future at the club.
Arsenal have also been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria.
The 23-year-old is a key player for Monchengladbach and despite his defensive duties, he has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 96 appearances in all competitions for the club.
The youngster has already earned 28 caps for Switerzland and his performances this season have helped Monchengladbach reach fourth place in the Bundesliga.
His form attracted the attention of Arsenal, Liverpool and United in January and while the player didn’t leave in the last window, several clubs could take another look this summer, as his current contract expires in 2022.
Arteta is also looking to add to his attacking options and Arsenal have been linked with RB Leipzig winger Marcel Sabitzer.
The 26-year-old is in fantastic form this season and has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in 35 appearances in all competitions. This also included four goals in seven Champions League matches.
His current contract expires in 2022 and according to Italian publication CalcioMercato, Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in the versatile attacker.
Sabitzer has earned 42 caps for Austria and while his main position is on the right-wing, he has proven to be just as effective playing through the middle of the park too.
