ARSENAL 1-0 LEICESTER
34: Glorious football. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka are chasing absolute mayhem for Leicester. They can’t deal with the pair. After a neat one-two the ball is squared for Alexandre Lacazette. His sweet connection is heading for the bottom left-hand corner until Kasper Schmeichel makes a miraculous stop.
31: We’ve just ticked over the half-our mark and Arsenal have completely transformed this one. They couldn’t get out of their half in the opening 15 minutes but they are bossing it.
Alexandre Lacazette spins and slides in Bukayo Saka, who sees his angled effort blocked by the legs of Kasper Schmeichel.
28: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang nearly returns the favour to Bukayo Saka when powering in from the left channel and cutting the ball across goal. Luckily for Leicester, Caglar Soyuncu is there to boot it into orbit.
20: Arsenal’s turn to attack. The Gunners are set on their way down the left channel through Kieran Tierney, who whips a ball into the six-yard box that Jonny Evans hacks away. Not an easy clearance given the skiddy surface and pouring rain at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta’s chinos will be ruined.
17: 61% of the play over the last five minutes has taken place inside the Arsenal half. 0% in the Leicester half as Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes assert themselves.
14: Save! Nice. I love a training-ground routine me. Leicester work a corner short and Arsenal are caught sleeping. Marc Albrighton cuts the ball back to an unmarked Kelechi Iheanacho, whose first-time strike is stopped by the legs of Emiliano Martinez. Great save.
11: Jamie Vardy works the ball out wide to James Justin. The attack breaks down but Vardy still gets possession and tests Emiliano Martinez with his first effort of the evening.
8: The subtext of tonight is the battle for the Golden Boot. Jamie Vardy still leads the way and is currently two goals ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Both sides have set up with very high lines – so I’d imagine at least one of them will profit from that tonight.
5: “We just can’t beat Arsenal at the Emirates,” says my Leicester supporting friend via WhatsApp. Thanks for the contribution if you’re reading tonight, Dave. If not then consider our friendship over. The Foxes have only ever won one Premier League point away to Arsenal and that was in 1995 at Highbury.
“Less than four minutes in and have heard Arteta communicate with Hector Bellerin in Spanish, tell Dabni Ceballos “Not too far” in English and shout in French “Allez, Laca!” as Alexandre Lacazette chased a forward pass,” writes James Olley on Twitter.
3: Quite funny listening to Alan Smith’s take on Mikel Arteta’s rein. “The most surprising thing that’s happened is Shkodran Mustafi’s improvement,” not sure that’s a ringing endorsement, Alan.
Anyway, nothing aside from Ryan Bennett flooring Sead Kolasinac has happened.
