Campbell has been without a club since leaving Sky Bet League Two side Macclesfield Town by mutual consent in August.

Southend chairman Ron Martin recently spoke glowingly of Campbell, praising the work he conducted at Macclesfield.

‘Sol is a passionate, eloquent individual,’ Martin had told the Southend Echo.

‘One can perhaps understand why Sol succeeded against the odds at Macclesfield.’

Southend currently find themselves in a position of needing to quickly turn their fortunes around, following a poor start to the season.

The Shrimpers are currently second from bottom of League One with just five points taken from 13 games played.
