Liverpool are set to overhaul their goalkeeping department come the summer with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius both failing to hit the heights expected of them.
Karius has usurped Mignolet to get the nod in recent weeks but the brutal truth is the German youngster still has much improving to do.
And Spanish website Diario Gol say Liverpool have reached out to Real Madrid’s Navas, who is expected to leave the Bernabeu when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Real Madrid are set to wave goodbye to the Costa Rica international with deals for David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois in the works.
Navas was signed on the cheap from Levante shortly after his heroics for his country at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
In the time since he has blossomed between the sticks, helping Zinedine Zidane’s side win back-to-back Champions League titles as well as dethrone Barcelona as La Liga champions.
However, Navas’ form has tailed off this season and a parting of the ways now looks inevitable.
And Diario Gol say Liverpool are ready to pounce to bring him to the Premier League.
The Reds, as well as Sevilla, are keen to snap him up.
However, Navas has supposedly told Real that he has no interest in moving to Sevilla or to Merseyside come the summer.
Instead, he is focused on fighting it out for a spot in Zidane’s starting line-up.
Navas nearly moved to England before back in the summer of 2015, with Manchester United agreeing a deal that would have seen De Gea move to the Bernabeu.
Yet a tearful Navas ended up staying put and, speaking in the immediate aftermath of that transfer saga, he admitted regret at failing to make the move to Old Trafford.
“It was one of the worst days of my career”, the former Levante star said.
”I cried when the transfer window was closed, near my wife. I’m human and everything exploded.
“I was waiting in the airport even without suitcases. I was not on the plane, but I was near.”
