Real Madrid are eyeing another raid on Manchester United, with the La Liga giants keen to sign De Gea nine years after they successfully lured Ronaldo away from Old Trafford.
The Spain international is wanted at the Bernabeu as a replacement for Keylor Navas, whose erratic performances have cost them dear so far this season.
Real are planning to go all out for De Gea, despite the 27-year-old seeing a move to the club fall through nearly three years ago.
Yet Spanish outlet Don Balon claims the salary the club are prepared to pay De Gea has reached the ears of club talisman Ronaldo.
It is said Real Madrid are prepared to pay him a wage worth £17million annually.
That would make him one of the highest-earners at the club, and only £5m a year short of Ronaldo’s own wage.
And it is that fact, Don Balon say, that has angered Ronaldo.
The 32-year-old supposedly finds it ridiculous that Real are prepared to part with such an amount to lure De Gea to the capital.
Particularly given his own feelings on a new contract.
Ronaldo is understood to be unhappy at Real Madrid and weighing up his future after the club refused to grant him pay parity with the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi.
Last month, it was heavily reported that Ronaldo was keen to return to United.
But the Red Devils’ signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal appears to have ended any hopes of an emotional return.
Ronaldo has also been backed to join Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain as part of a deal that could see Neymar move in the opposite direction.
