Neil Harbisson, a self-declared “cyborg artist”, was speaking to media at the World Government Summit in Dubai, as this clip shows.

Neil believes the fact his antenna features in his passport photo means the British government recognises his enhanced hybrid abilities.

A cyborg is a being with both organic and biomechatronic body parts, often portrayed in sci-fi movies such as Terminator or Robocop.

Neil told journalists at the summit in the north-eastern UAE city that people need to accept that there will soon be more people with technological rather than organic body parts.

He explained: “I see this as a body part, not a device, but as an organ.

“I don’t wear an antenna, I have an antenna. So I see this as part of me.”

Neil had the device implanted in 2004.

He declared that it allows him to perceive colours for the first time.

“ It allows me to extend my perception of reality beyond the visual spectrum”

The sensor that dangles over the top of his head translates light waves into vibrations that he has learned to decode.

He said: “It allows me to extend my perception of reality beyond the visual spectrum.

“I can sense infrared and ultraviolet, and I also have internet connection in my head that allows me to receive colours from other parts of the world, or connect to satellite so I can send colours from space.”

“We will see people with organic and cybernetic body parts in the future and governments should accept these changes, some of their citizens will also be part technology and part human.”

Mr Harbisson is a co-founder of the Cyborg Society and also the Transpecies Society, which aims to represent people who identify as non-human

The World Government Summit, held annually in Dubai, is a forum forgovernment leaders to discuss innovation, technology and futurism.
