Pokemon Go developer Niantic has announced a brand new battle event.
And there’s not long to wait, because the Pokemon Go Battle Event kicks off at 9pm later tonight (May 1).
As part of the Pokemon Go Battle Event, Trainers can expect to encounter more fighting-type Pocket Monsters.
This includes battle-hardened Pokemon like Machop, Makuhita, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan.
“It’s time to test the strength of your Pokemon during a special battle event!” Niantic explains.
“Fighting-type Pokemon, such as Machop and Makuhita, will appear more frequently in the wild starting May 1 at 1:00 p.m. PDT.
“Our Battle Showdown is sure to pack a punch, so don’t miss it!”

The Pokemon Go event also includes Gym and Raid bonuses when players battle.
This includes double XP for Gym and Raid battles, not tp mention guranteed Stardust and Rare Candy for Raids.
“But what’s a battle celebration without some competition at your nearby Gym?” the post continues.
“Until May 14, you’ll receive 2× bonus XP for Gym Battles and Raid Battles. Plus, Raid Battles will also award a guaranteed 3,000 Stardust for participating – and at least one Rare Candy if you win!”
There’s even special Badge multipliers at Gyms, plus additional items for spinning Photo Discs.
“Several actions at Gyms will yield bonuses, including a 2× Badge multiplier, so you can receive even more benefits at a Gym you visit frequently,” Nianatic adds.
“Just stopping by? Spinning the Photo Disc at Gyms will also yield more items!”
Today also marks the beginning of new Research quests involving Zapdos.
