Nintendo Switch owners have been treated to some great news by Nintendo.
The Nintendo Switch has gotten off to a strong start, selling a massive 14.86 million units in less than a year.
It’s so successful that Nintendo has announced plans to back the console for many years to come.
Speaking to Japanese publication Nikkei, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that the company wants to support the Switch for longer than the typical console generation.
Kimishima hopes that the Switch will continue to be sold beyond the next 5-6 years.
Hopefully this means more quality releases in the same vein as Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and ARMS beyond 2023.

It was recently revealed that Super Mario Odyssey has sold a massive 9 million units.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is on 7.33 million sales, followed by Zelda: Breath of the Wild with 6.7million units and Splatoon 2 at nearly 5 million.
Nintendo has also managed to banish the Wii U blues in just nine months, as Switch hardware and game sales soar.
The Switch outsold the Wii U’s 13.5 million lifetime sales in just 9 months.
The company has expressed an interest in releasing more Nintendo Switch DLC in the future.
During its recent earnings call, Nintendo said that it wants to encourage fans to play for longer. The company also wants to build excitement for new releases by holding more events.
“To promote longer gameplay for individual software titles, we plan to implement even more downloadable content and events that build excitement for games,” Nintendo revealed.
Nintendo didn’t specifically mention any titles, but Super Mario Odyssey fans will be hoping for a substantial expansion for the game.
