‘Mutant caterpillar with mouse’s head’ sparks mass confusion

The strange animal was discovered in the port city of Odessa, Ukraine.

In the clip, which has been viewed over 300,000 times on YouTube, the black creature can be seen rolling around.

But the head is the most captivating part as it appears to be one seen on a mouse.

EEK: A man in Ukraine was stunned when he found a ‘mutant caterpillar with a mouse’s head’

A woman off-camera argues that it is a salamander, a lizard-like amphibian.

She says: “Well, it is a salamander, yes. It’s a salamander. It is like a small lizard with yellow spots.”

It was found by Alexander Emelyanov who found the creature when he was in a forest and decided to bring it home.

And viewers on YouTube were sent into a frenzy by the “mutant caterpillar”.

“You should wait for more people, this is just the beginning,” one viewer wrote.

While another commented: “Look, mice are mutating. People are mutating. They get wild and start hissing like snakes.”

But the creature was identified when experts were contacted by local media, saying it was an elephant hawk-moth.

The name is derived from the caterpillar’s resemblance to an elephant’s trunk.

But this is not the only creature to shock people as a “human sea creature” was found in China.

And yesterday, a British beachgoer was left baffled after a strange animal was washed up on the shore.
