Manchester United have drawn up a shortlist of four strikers they could look to sign in the January transfer window – with Erling Braut Haaland highly regarded at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ flailing attack has been helped by Anthony Martial’s injury return, having scored at least twice in four of their last five matches across all competitions having previously only managed more than one goal in a game in one of their previous 13.

Yet with only Martial and Marcus Rashford as senior options, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to at least try and recruit a new forward in January.

And the Evening Standard report that United have identified four potential targets to strengthen the Norwegian’s attacking arsenal.

Solskjaer is thought to be a big admirer of compatriot Haaland, with whom he worked at Molde.

The 19-year-old – son of former Leeds and Manchester City star Alf-Inge – has 26 goals in 18 games this season for Red Bull Salzburg.

Seven of those have come in the Champions League, scoring at Anfield against Liverpool having managed a hat-trick against Genk on his competition debut.

The towering, yet pacey, teenage frontman has five hat-tricks already this season for Austrian champions Salzburg.

United would however likely face wide-ranging competition for Haaland’s signature and it has been suggested he would cost a club-record £85million, not even a year after his current club paid Molde £4.5m for his services.

In addition to the Norway striker, United have also had scouts watching Everton’s Richarlison, claim the Evening Standard.

The 22-year-old Brazil international has managed 16 Premier League goals in 47 appearances since moving to Goodison Park from Watford for £50m in the summer of 2018.

Like Martial and Rashford, Richarlison is able to play across the front three having been utilised as a No 9 several times recently by Marco Silva on Merseyside.

He is predominantly a right-sided winger, however, which would help offer Solskjaer an alternative to Daniel James.

Other mentioned options include Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, who was mooted to make a move to Chelsea for as much as £75m back in January.

The Englishman is a bit at older at 27, and turning 28 in February, but has been excellent for the Cherries over the last 18 months.

He provided 14 league goals last season and so far this term, has five strikes to his name after 12 appearances.

RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner is another target for United.

Express Sport understands Liverpool are also admirers of the German international, one of the Bundesliga’s finest marksmen in recent seasons.

The 23-year-old has 15 goals in 17 league and cup games this term, added to seven assists, and his league record at Leipzig reads an impressive 61 goals and 28 assists in 104 games.

Werner signed a new contract last summer, that runs until 2023, but reports have indicated it contains a release clause that could be around (£51.4m) €60m if he meets pre-agreed targets.
