William Kelley reported his car stolen over the weekend, and it still hasn’t been recovered.
But he might not be needing it for a while anyway after police released why they believed Kelley’s 1992 Chevy pick-up was parked in the spot it was stolen from.
Kelley had been across the road committing a burglary, they claimed.
Kennewick Police Department, in Washington state, US, say they were called to a scene on Sunday morning after a red pick-up was stolen.
However while they were investigating the incident, they claim they found evidence that the truck’s owner was committing a burglary at the time.
The police department said: “KPD responded to the area… for an auto theft that had just occurred.
“The owner of the vehicle, William Kelley, was reporting that someone just stole his red 1992 Chevy pickup with maroon canopy. He had left his keys on the seat.”
“A male riding a 10-speed [bike] rode by and discovered the keys and then threw his bike in the bed of the truck and fled.
“Video was obtained of the incident and a new fact was discovered. Kelley was at the location because he was stealing items from a business across the street.
“Kelley was booked into the jail in the AM hours on a warrant and subsequently a new charge of burglary was added. Kelley’s vehicle has still not been located.”
Video of the incident shows Kelley frantically chasing after his truck as it was driven away.
