Liverpool got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start last night as Firmino struck late to end PSG’s dogged resistance.
The Reds started brightly, taking the lead courtesy of goals from Daniel Sturridge, Firmino’s replacement, and James Milner.
PSG then rocked Liverpool, however, by levelling the scores through Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappe.
Firmino came off the bench late on to bag a dramatic late winner, days after sustaining an eye injury against Tottenham.
Mane also impressed for Liverpool.
And the Senegal international has now revealed he was begging Firmino to play before the match.
“I think Bobby doesn’t need his eye to play so I told him,” Mane said.
“I sent him a message on Monday saying: ‘Hey Bobby, come on, we need you.’
“You’ve all seen the ‘no look’ goals so I think he doesn’t need his eye to play.
“I texted him saying: ‘You don’t need your eye!’”
Firmino’s eye injury looked nasty.
The Brazil international was inadvertently injured by Jan Vertonghen during Saturday’s 3-2 win over Tottenham at Wembley.
And Firmino has now provided an update on his condition.
“I felt well when I came on to the pitch,” said Firmino.
“Thank god nothing serious happened.
“It has been three days after the incident and the recovery went well.
“The recovery was also good for the next game.
“I took the recovery seriously and my family helped me a lot too, so I’m very happy.”
