Kawhi Leonard net worth: NBA star amassed huge fortune before signing LA Clippers contract | Other | Sport

Kawhi Leonard had a fantastic 2019 season as he picked up his second NBA Championship and NBA finals MVP award.

But after 28-year-old helped the Canadian outfit win their first Larry O’Brien trophy, he decided to leave after just one season north of the border.

The Indiana Pacers took Leonard with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft but quickly traded the player to the San Antonio Spurs on the same night. He then went on to win his first NBA championship with the Spurs in 2014 when they beat the Miami Heat 4–1 in the series.

This summer Leonard became a free agent and was picked up by the LA Clippers on a huge contract – but just how much is he worth?

Leonard has amassed a big fortune her the course of this NBA carer and is worth $35million, according to CelebrityNetWorth.com.

The small forward put pen to paper on a three-year contract worth $103million when he joined the Clippers in free agency last summer.

However, Leonard has a player option in the third year, which means he could choose to enter free agency again in 2021 if he wants.

This means Leonard would then be eligible for a ‘max contract’, which allows players with 10-plus years of experience to earn a contract worth 35 per-cent of the salary cap.

And according to NBA insider Tom Haberstroh, that would mean he would be eligible for an estimated four-year deal worth $196m in a couple of years’ time.

However, at the time the small forward declined to take an offer from Jordan worth a reported $22m and according to ESPN’s Nick DePaula the deal with New Balance is worth more than $5m per year.

The report also claims Leonard’s endorsement deal places him well within the top 15 of top annual sneaker earners.
