Instagram just rolled out a new ‘Type Mode’ feature that lets users add some fun and flair to their Stories posts.

Type Mode enables users to share text-only posts on their Instagram Stories — no photos or videos are required.

The update, which rolled out on Thursday, also introduces a host of new fonts, backgrounds and other effects that can be used in Type Mode or in the regular Stories mode.

Type Mode is now available for all users on Android and iOS.

Instagram’s new ‘Type Mode’ feature rolled out to all iOS and Android users on Thursday. Type Mode lets you share text-only posts to your Stories feed and introduces new fonts to the app

‘Now, you can turn your most random thoughts into something colorful and expressive,’ the company noted.

To access Text Mode, open up the Instagram app, then tap the camera icon in the upper left corner.

Under the white record/snapshot button and next to the ‘Normal’ option, scroll left to the ‘Type’ option.

There, users can choose from four different Type Mode options, including: ‘Modern’ mode, ‘Neon’ mode, ‘Typewriter’ mode and ‘Strong’ mode.

Each mode has different typefaces and background colors, many of them featuring colorful gradient backgrounds and fonts.

You can also customize your text even further by tapping the ‘A’ button, which can highlight certain words and add a background color.

As with the normal Stories mode, you can change the color of your text, add stickers, emojis and GIFs, as well as doodle on the screen.

If you scroll back to ‘Normal’ mode in Stories, you can also switch from the ‘Classic’ font to the Modern, Neon, Typewriter and Strong typefaces.

Facebook, which owns Instagram, recently launched similar, text-only features for the News Feed and the Messenger app.

Until now, users had been relying on creative workarounds to create text-only posts.

Users discovered that if you select the chisel-tip pen in Instagram’s normal Stories mode, then press and hold anywhere on the screen, it creates a translucent layer of color that fills the whole screen.

A similar effect can be created using the felt-tip pen, except it creates an opaque layer.

Other Instagram hacks discovered by users include secret sticker colors and creating a custom sticker using your face, among other things.

Last week, Instagram rolled out a new GIF feature that lets users add animated stickers to their Stories posts. Users will also soon be able to upload photos or videos of any size to Stories
