FTSE CLOSE: Footsie finishes flat; RPC shares soar on takeover talks; Dignity hit by Co-op funeral price cuts; pound at $1.30


The FTSE 100 closed up 1.60 points at 7279.30 and the pound was at $1.30 against the dollar.

ABF shares were down despite good sales at Primark, and funeral firm Dignity’s shares were hit by a price war. 

Debenhams meanwhile suffered another hit to its share price after reports at the weekend that it had drafted in KMPG to help rescue it. 

Shares in RPC rocketed after the plastic packaging firm confirmed it is in talks with Apollo Global and Bain Capital regarding a potential takeover of the company.
