Lampard set down his glass of wine and had the Saint George’s Cross hung over him as staff provided sparklers and a very fitting soundtrack.

First up was the national anthem before The Clash’s 1982 hit blared out.

The 41-year-old is weighing up a major career decision, deciding whether he should stay at Derby or go to Chelsea.

He looks set to achieve his dream job far sooner in his managerial career than expected and will succeed Maurizio Sarri if he decides to quit Pride Park after just one season.

Lampard’s first campaign in management earned him plenty of plaudits with victories in the cup competitions over Southampton and Manchester United in addition to a sixth place finish.

Derby were beaten in the Championship play-off final but he looks set to take a giant step up and take the helm at Stamford Bridge amid the testing circumstances of a transfer ban.

Lampard who is currently enjoying a holiday with his wife, could be unveiled as the new Blues manager as early as next week.
