Epic Games will be making some significant changes to one of the most popular games in the world later this week.
It all started with a rocket being launched into the sky, creating a crack and the very first rift in time and space.
Lasers shot down at Tilted Towers and other locations and also begun the countdown to season 5.
And from the leaks and rumours shared online, it looks like we’re getting a historically themed season, with plenty of new loot to collect.
Here’s everything we know so far about what’s coming in Fortnite Season 5.
The Fortnite season 5 battle pass will be released on Thursday, July 12, kicking off a new round of weekly challenges.
Epic Games sometimes likes to tweak their battle pass items and rules; Season 4 saw new Blockbuster Challenges added.
From what we have seen so far, Fortnite Season 5 battle pass will cost 950 V-Bucks to buy and will include 100 tiers.
Last season also saw sprays added to the cosmetic pass, so Epic Games may do something similar in season 5.
According to Epic Games, the 100 rewards that can be unlocked is worth over 25,000 V-Bucks and typically takes 75 to 150 hours of play.
And when it comes to what items will be included in the battle pass, it appears that they will have a historical theme.
FORTNITE SKINS AND MAP THEME
So far, Epic Games has teased items for the Wild West, Ancient Greece, Feudal Japan and the Vikings.
These have appeared on Twitter as teaser images, as well as through new items appearing on the Fortnite map.
It’s fair to say that the new theme will affect both the theme of specific map locations and the outfits on offer through the battle pass.
Season 5 skins will be unlocked via the battle pass, but fans can probably expect a few other surprises too.
There’s a chance that Epic Games will also drop in a few mythical looks too, with plenty of mythology to pull from.
A minotaur skin would undoubtedly go down well with fans, or perhaps outfits styled on Thor and Loki?
There are also plenty of map changes rumoured to be coming to Fortnite in Season 5.
We’ve already seen new items popping up on the map via the small rifts that have been appearing in-game.
An old stagecoach is now on the hill near Moisty Mire, while an ancient anchor has also emerged.
The Fortnite season 5 teaser showed a cat-like mask with the cracks that have been appearing in the Battle Royale skyline since the rocket launch.
The mysterious Fortnite season 5 teaser sparked plenty of fan theories, with players speculating it could show a Bastet, Kitsune or Kabuki mask.
The different masks would each have different ramifications for Fortnite season 5.
If the teaser was showing a Bastet mask, it could be hinting that Fortnite season 5 will have Ancient Egyptian outfits or locations.
One era that Fortnite fans have long theorised season 5 could begin with is the Wild West.
And in the official patch notes Epic Games may have let slip that Fortnite season 5 will have a Wild West theme.
The Fortnite makers have revealed a roadmap for updates for Save The World recently on Reddit.
In the post, Epic Games revealed Fortnite update 5.0 will be bringing Wild West heroes to Save The World this week.
It will also bring new Flintlock weapons to Fortnite Save The World.
Notorious Fortnite data miners Two Epic Buddies have seemingly uncovered imagery of an updated map.
By the looks of things, Fortnite’s map will get a sandy makeover in time for the new season.
There’s even a gameplay screenshot showing what the desert areas will look like on the ground.
It’s hard to say if all these things will happen, or if some of these events are being saved for other points in time.
We already know that this will be the leading them for the Save the World mode.
Fortnite Playground mode is finishing later this week, meaning a new LTM will be popping very soon.
And there have already been rumbling about what might replace it.
The Leviathan limited time mode is believed to be part of season 5 and will add some very different gameplay to Fortnite.
This includes a 50v50 mode in which one team must escort the Leviathan to either Wailing Woods or Greasy Grove.
The other team must stop the Leviathan from reaching the destination before the match ends.
According to the latest reports, building will be banned from the game mode, making it a straight up fight to the death.
