UPDATE ONE: Epic Games have provided a new update on the current state of Fortnite Battle Royale on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mobile and Switch.
Having confirmed that the game had returned to some normality earlier today, a new support message now confirms that there are still issues affecting fans.
“We’re aware of the stability and performance issues currently impacting players and we’re working on an emergency patch to resolve this,” the message reads.
“We’ll keep everyone updated on the progress and roll out of the patch.”
As mentioned by Epic Games above, a new hotfix is being released today that should solve some of these problems, although it’s unclear if this will affect Playground Mode.
Playground LTM went live earlier today but was only available to play for a short time, before matchmaking was disabled.
ORIGINAL: Matchmaking was hit by some issues earlier today, some of which Epic Games have now resolved.
Players are still reporting problems, although it appears things are improving.
“Matchmaking has returned to a healthy state and we are continuing work to get the Playgrounds LTM re-enabled,” the latest message from Epic Games explains.
“Thank you for your patience while we resolve these issues.”
The game’s status site reports that all of Battle Royale’s normal functions are getting back to working order, although Fortnite Playground Mode is still offline.
The new LTM mode went live earlier today, only to be pulled because of today’s issues.
Playground Mode is supposed to let players drop onto the island with up to 3 friends to explore and build whatever they fancy.
Friends can also practise with certain weapons and help build better strategies when tackling opponents.
The LTM does have a time limit, with respawn limits also in place to help end the mode when the storm arrives.
Playground Mode Details
- You’ll have one hour to create, play and train as you wish. Hop in and try out version 1 of Playground!
- Drop into the Battle Royale map with a squad of friends for an hour
- Friendly Fire is on
- Players respawn on elimination unless downed by the storm
- The storm doesn’t start closing in for 55m and takes 5 minutes to close in
- Resources gathered grant 10x the normal rate.
- 100 Llamas will be spawned on the map
- Chests & Ammo Boxes spawn 100% of the time
As the patch notes confirm, there’s plenty to do and certainly enough time to build the structures you have always wanted to.
Today’s problems had been forecast following Epic Games’ struggles to get the game mode working earlier this year.
Playground Mode was expected to go live a few months ago, only to be pushed back because of backend problems.
The good news is that Epic Games seem to know what the problem is and have an idea how to fix it.
This means that Fortnite Playground Mode should not be disabled indefinitely.
But until the development team posts more on the situation, we will have to wait and see just how quick the turnaround is.
Matchmaking returning to normal is certainly a good sign that things are moving in the right direction.
As the latest outage hit fans took to social media to voice their frustration at the Fortnite Playground issues.
One fan tweeted: “Of course when my download is at 10 minutes left the playground disappears THANKS #Fortnite”.
While another posted: “Woke up thinking Playground mode on Fortnite was gone be working, this s**** disabled.”
One wrote: “PLEASE BRING IT BACK #FortnitePlayground”.
And one added: “Already Playground LTM in Fortnite Battle Royale is taken away. Can’t wait for it to come back. @FortniteGame”.
