Speaking to IGN, Kevin Smith spoke about visiting the set of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker when director JJ Abrams talked him out of peeking in at the very last moment of the film.
The reason? It’s a huge, almighty spoiler.
Smith recalled of his time at Pinewood: “[There was] a big set that [crew] were like, ‘you HAVE to see this, when you see it, it will melt your mind.’
“And I was like, ‘what, what is it?’
“They were like, ‘Ask JJ’. And so I said, ‘they keep saying I should see the set’, and he said, ‘don’t’.”
Abrams told Smith that “‘It’s the last shot of the movie’.”
Smith added: “I said, ‘well now I REALLY want to see it!’, and he said, ‘you don’t want this spoiled. You want to be in the movie theatre when this happens. Trust me.’
“Other people in the crew were like, ‘I wish I hadn’t seen it… it will melt your mind.’
“So for that reason alone… I desperately wanted to go and look, but when you talk to the magician and the magician is like, ‘trust me on this one…’
“I’m just like, ‘you know what? Trick me.’”
There are plenty of rumours and theories about what Episode 9 will entail, given that it wraps up the entire nine-movie saga that began in the late 1970s with A New Hope.
Mark Hamill’s late Luke Skywalker is back as a Force Ghost, Carrie Fisher will be seen as Leia thanks to old footage, and Billy Dee Williams is back too as Lando Calrissian.
Someone who is far more likely to be seen is Palpatine – after Abrams confirmed Ian McDiarmid had been on set, and his laugh was heard in the initial trailer.
But still the hype builds – and recently Daisy Ridley (Rey) said the end of filming left her emotionally distraught.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 19.
