Fortnite Avengers – Infinity War themed LTM Infinity Gauntlet brings Thanos to Battle Royale

– UPDATE ONE: Epic Games has given an update on the Fortnite Infinity War LTM which brings Marvel supervillain Thanos to Battle Royale.

Fortnite update 4.1 will roll out today and the latest patch will include the Fortnite Avengers event content for PS4, Xbox One and Mobile.

In the announcement tweet posted on Monday, Epic Games described the shock Fortnite Thanos update as a ‘limited time mash-up’.

And in an update yesterday the team revealed that servers will be going down ahead of the launch of Fortnite Avengers.

On Monday they tweeted: “The v4.1 update is scheduled for tomorrow, May 8 at 4:00am ET (0800 GMT). There will be downtime.”

For those in the UK, Fortnite fans will see servers go down at 9am – Britain is currently on BST which is an hour ahead of GMT – on Tuesday May 8.

For Fortnite fans in America, servers will go down for those in pacific time zones at 1am.

Fortnite Avengers will see players scrambling to grab the Infinity Gauntlet once it pops up on the Battle Royale map.

Once it does they’ll be able to put it on and transform into Infinity War villain Thanos, and in their new form they will be able to wield “all the power that comes with him”.

ORIGINAL: Fortnite Avengers is coming to PS4, Xbox One and Mobile, with the release date and start time for the Infinity War LTM fast approaching.

Marvel villain Thanos is heading to Fortnite Battle Royale thanks to the upcoming Infinity Gauntlet ‘limited time mash-up’ announced by Epic Games today.

The official Fortnite Twitter account stunned fans with the surprise Fortnite Avengers announcement.

They tweeted promo artwork showing Marvel’s Infinity War villain Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet next to the Fortnite Omega skin.

Alongside the Fortnite Avengers reveal was the teaser: “The battle begins tomorrow…”

Fortnite Avengers is described as a ‘limited time mashup’ so it’s unclear how long Fortnite fans will get to play through the Marvel content.

Epic Games has not revealed whether there will be any server downtime ahead of Fortnite Avengers going live.

But the Cary-based developer tends to take Fortnite servers down ahead of most major updates, so it is likely.

With the Fortnite Avengers release date and start time fast approaching, has rounded up all you need to know about the Marvel content and the latest on any upcoming skins.

Fortnite Avengers will launch on Tuesday May 8, with the Infinity War themed LTM Infinity Gauntlet going live on PS4, Xbox One and Fortnite Mobile.

Epic Games has not revealed a start time, but they tend to follow a set pattern with their release schedules for big updates.

Ahead of major Fortnite updates being rolled out, servers are usually taken down on the day of launch around 8am or 9am UK time.

Fortnite servers then usually go down for around two to three hours, before coming back online with the latest update waiting and ready to download.

So if this is the case and all goes to plan, Fortnite fans should hopefully be playing Fortnite Avengers by around 11am UK time on Tuesday.

That is roughly the time that Fortnite servers came back online after last week’s launch of Fortnite season 4.

So far, the only confirmed Marvel character coming to Fortnite Battle Royale in the Fortnite Avengers event is Thanos.

The Mad Titan will play a central role in the Infinity War inspired Infinity Gauntlet mode.

Entertainment Weekly had exclusive details on how the limited time mode (LTM) will work ahead of its launch.

In their article EW explained: “The “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” mode for Battle Royale will feel just like a standard slugfest — with one major difference: One hundred players will descend upon the map and fight until one player is left standing, as usual, but this time you’ll do so with the Infinity Gauntlet in play.

“The artifact containing all six Infinity Stones — the same one Thanos used to cripple Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on the big screen — will appear on the map.

“Whomsoever finds and equips it will transform into Thanos himself, wielding all the power that comes with him.”

While it’s certain that Thanos will appear in Fortnite Avengers, those hoping other Marvel characters will make an appearance are set for disappointment.

Fans on the Fortnite Battle Royale Reddit page soon after the announcement was made got excited about the possibilities of Fortnite Avengers skins.

One said a Groot skin with Rocket Raccoon as back bling would be like “printing money”.

While another said they’d “pay any amount for a Spider-Man skin”.

But JustMooney1, an Epic Games community co-ordinator, said Epic Games had “no plans for Avengers outfits in the store”.

This doesn’t rule out Fortnite Avengers skins coming to Battle Royale in the future, but it does look like there won’t be any available at launch on Tuesday.

You thought Avengers Infinity War was the most ambitious crossover event ever?

Well, Epic Games’ latest announcement will have taken you by surprise then!

It was revealed by EW that the Fortnite and Marvel crossover happened because the Russo Brothers, the directors of Infinity War, are big Fortnite fans.

Joe Russo explained: “Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games.

“And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”

Donald being Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games.

He added: “Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas.

“It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about.

“About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”

Fortnite Avengers will be available to play in the free-to-play Battle Royale mode on Tuesday May 8 on PS4, Xbox One, Fortnite Mobile, PC and Macs.
