Fisherman fights off three sharks trying to snatch his catch

An Australian fisherman redefined “extreme angling” after bravely fending off three sharks that were trying to steal his catch.

“Fearless” sportsman Cooper Watson told Dogtooth Media he was lucky he was not bitten himself during the attack, which occurred Sunday while the 21-year-old was fishing off the Cocos Islands, as seen in this wild video.

The jaws-dropping clip starts off innocuously enough with Watson handling a trevally he caught while standing in clear thigh-high water.

All of a sudden, a blacktip reef shark zooms into frame and attempts to snatch the fish out of his hand like a SeaWorld dolphin, prompting the fisherman to cry out in surprise. Fortunately, he doesn’t drop the trevally.

The clip then cuts to the trevally swimming through the water while tethered to the rod, whereupon a second shark tries to make a pass it at. However, this time Watson manages to fight the pilfering predator off by chasing it through the shallows while screaming obscenities.

The steel-nerved seaman uses the same technique to deter a third shark, even throwing an underwater kick at the toothy critter.

This isn’t the first time this week someone has turned the tables on an apex predator.

A 28-year-old Canadian woman was hailed a hero Tuesday after punching a crocodile that was attacking her twin sister in Mexico’s Manialtepec Lagoon.

She is currently in critical condition due to injuries she sustained during the battle.
