Chelsea make major announcement as chairman Bruce Buck speaks out | Football | Sport

Despite still having 12 Premier League games to go of the 2017/18 season, the Blues are already looking at getting the best preparations planned for next term.

Chelsea are set to go Down Under and will play Perth Glory at the brand new Optus Stadium on Monday July 23.

Blues chairman Bruce Buck said: ”We will be taking a strong squad to Perth as we prepare for the 2018/19 season.

“Of course, we have a long way to go in the current campaign but we can already look forward to an exciting pre-season.

“Optus Stadium will be a fantastic and fitting venue for us to visit our passionate Australian supporters once more and take part in an entertaining match against Perth Glory.”

Chelsea will be the first Premier League club to play at the brand new 60,000 seater stadium and former Blue Mark Schwarzer is looking forward to his old side visiting his homeland.

“This venue is truly spectacular, I know the team will be hugely excited to be the first Premier League club to play here,” he said.

“There are thousands of passionate Chelsea supporters across Australia and south-east Asia.

“I’d encourage them to come and watch the team play at this world-class venue and take some extra time to enjoy the very best of Perth and Western Australia.”

It remains to be seen whether Antonio Conte will be the man in charge of leading his team out against the A-League outfit however.

The Italian’s job is under threat following a run of just two wins in nine games in all competitions.

Owner Roman Abramovich appears to be keeping faith with the former Juventus boss for now but widespread reports suggest the club are already in talks with ex-Barcelona manager Luis Enrique to succeed him at the end of the season.
