An “alien-like” centipede has been filmed climbing out of its skin in nightmare footage.
The clip, which has gone viral, captured the centipede shedding its exo-skeleton after forming a new one.
It begins with the eery creature wriggling intensely, as its body appears to lengthen.
The insect’s head begins to stretch out of its body as the other half of its skin grows lifeless.
Its new skin beams bright blue while its other turns orange.
As the centipede pulls its remaining body out of its old exoskeleton, its legs remain tightly tucked up into its body.
Once it’s completed its shredding, the insect stretching out its limbs and gets used to having extra legs.
Centipedes shed their skin in a process called moulting as they grow into adults.
Some species add legs each time they molt.
Moulting is where the centipede will grow a new exoskeleton underneath the old one and when it is ready, shed the old exoskeleton
It’s common for the insect to turn around and devour its skin once it’s completed.
The video was uploaded online, with the caption: “It is a centipede changing skin, although it looks like an alien.”
More than 1.3million people have since viewed the clip.
One person said: “I’m running away from this.”
A second said: “What the hell is this? I just dropped my phone.”
While a third described it as being both “beautiful yet freaky”.
It’s not the first time a bizarre insect has been captured on camera.
Terrifying ” alien-like” winged creature with tentacles was filmed lurking on a man’s ceiling.
