Del Potro set up a semi-final showdown with Milos Raonic after coming from a set down to beat Philipp Kohlschreiber in the last eight.
The winner of that clash will face either Roger Federer or Borna Coric – but the Swiss star is heavy favourite to go through.
And if Del Potro meets Federer in the final, which he has previously admitted he would like, then the Argentine is confident he can break his Masters duck.
The 29-year-old has never won an ATP Masters event and would like to do it in the ultimate way by beating the world No 1 in the final.
However, he acknowledges that it will be tough because of the form of the remaining semi-finalists.
“I’ve never won a tournament like this,” Del Potro said.
“I would like to win a final again, but Raonic is playing well, and Fed and Coric too.”
Del Porto has only recently come back from a wrist injury which required multiple surgeries.
And the world No 8 admitted that he even considered quitting the sport in his darkest hour.
“I was thinking about quitting tennis because of all the surgeries to my wrist and couldn’t see the effort to come back,” he added.
“But now I’m health and playing again.
“Having too much love for tennis and my fans, that’s why I do this”
