The former Liverpool midfielder was discussing the Arsenal’s January transfer window activity on Sky Sports’ The Debate.
And he was not happy with the way the Gunners recruited in the defensive areas despite that being their key weakness.
However, they failed to add any more first team defenders to their squad despite being regularly linked with West Brom’s Jonny Evans.
And Murphy labelled Arsene Wenger’s side a “joke” for not sorting out their “disorganised” defence.
“Right now when I watch Arsenal play, it’s a joke for a top club to be so disorganised,” Murphy told The Debate.
“We’ve talked about it until we’re blue in the face.
“Defensively they’re all over the place.
“Arsenal never change what they do yet still expect to beat teams.
“They never look like they’ve got a plan and their decision making is absolutely awful at times.
“Wenger’s recruitment in defensive areas is poor.
“The defenders themselves aren’t that bad but they’re just not coached.”
